About the Song
Travis Tritt, a stalwart of country music, has long been influenced by the legendary Waylon Jennings. Their relationship was both personal and professional, with Tritt often citing Jennings as a mentor and friend. In a heartfelt tribute, Tritt performed an acoustic medley of Jennings’ classics during a show at The Caverns in Pelham, Tennessee. This performance included renditions of “Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way,” “Mamas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys,” and “Good Ol’ Boys,” the theme song from The Dukes of Hazzard.
Tritt shared with the audience his admiration for Jennings, stating, “I loved everything about Waylon Jennings before I ever met him. I loved his singing voice, I loved his songwriting, I loved his guitar pickin’.” He also recounted advice Jennings gave him early in his career:
“The only people that you need to care about are the people that work hard… Those are the only people that you need to care about. The hell with the rest of them.”
